While lighter than full strike cruisers, they remain heavily armed and carry enough Astartes to bring the Emperor’s justice to the enemies of Mankind.

Design & Structure

Black Templars light cruisers are gothic warships, adorned with massive Templar crosses, purity seals, and iron-clad spires rising from their armored hulls. Their designs are often customized by the chapter’s Techmarines, featuring sanctified relics and battle honors from past crusades.

Unlike traditional Imperial Navy light cruisers, these warships are built for durability and speed, allowing them to chase down fleeing enemies or punch through enemy lines in fleet engagements. Their reinforced prow plating enables devastating ramming strikes, a favored tactic of the Black Templars when closing the distance for boarding actions.

Inside, they are both a warship and a holy cathedral, lined with towering statues of the Emperor and illuminated by the glow of ever-burning votive flames. Chapels, reliquaries, and sacred shrines dot the interior, ensuring the crew and Astartes aboard remain ever faithful to their sacred duty.

Role in Black Templars Warfare

The Black Templars Light Cruiser serves as a spearhead in fleet engagements, often deployed in squadrons to hunt down enemy warships, isolate key targets, or strike deep into enemy-held space. Their primary roles include:

• Strike and Pursuit Missions – Fast enough to hunt down fleeing heretics and xenos, ensuring none escape the Emperor’s wrath.
• Boarding Actions & Space Hulks – Deploying squads of Sword Brethren and Initiates into enemy vessels, tearing them apart from within.
• Planetary Assaults – Supporting Drop Pod assaults and Thunderhawk deployments, raining destruction on surface strongholds.
• Crusade Fleet Escorts – Acting as vanguard vessels for larger Black Templar warships, clearing the way for heavier battle barges.
